The Crown Jewel of African Safaris
The Maasai Mara National Reserve is Kenya's most celebrated wildlife sanctuary, renowned worldwide for its exceptional populations of lions, leopards, cheetahs, and the annual migration of zebra, Thomson's gazelle, and wildebeest from the Serengeti every year between July and October.
Named in honor of the ancestral inhabitants of the area, the Maasai people, and their description of the area when looked at from afar: "Mara," meaning "spotted" in the Maa language, referring to the many short bushy trees which dot the landscape.
With an area of 1,510 square kilometers, the Mara is home to an incredible diversity of wildlife including the Big Five, and over 470 species of birds, making it a photographer's and nature lover's paradise.

When to Visit
Plan your safari during the best seasons
π Peak Season (July - October)
This is the best time to witness the Great Migration when millions of wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles cross the Mara River from Tanzania's Serengeti. The dramatic river crossings and predator-prey interactions make this the ultimate safari experience. Wildlife viewing is at its peak, though it's also the busiest and most expensive period.
π€οΈ Dry Season (January - February)
Another excellent time for game viewing as animals gather around water sources. The weather is pleasant, there are fewer tourists, and you can still see abundant wildlife including newborn animals. This is calving season, attracting many predators.
π§οΈ Green Season (March - June, November - December)
The landscape transforms into lush green plains with beautiful scenery and excellent bird watching. While there may be occasional rain showers, this low season offers better rates, fewer crowds, and the opportunity to see migratory birds. Wildlife is still abundant but more dispersed.
